| | Chico High offers students seven Smaller Learning Communities (SLC), funded under a U.S. Department of Education grant that seeks to promote “academic achievement through small, safe, and successful learning environments in large public high schools.” Each Smaller Learning Community is a “school within a school,” with its own culture, program, teachers and students. Each offers core subjects and specialized electives. Research shows that students in a Smaller Learning Community feel less alienated, more nurtured and more connected to caring adults, and teachers feel they have more opportunity to get to know and support their students. | |
